How is a person saved and go to Heaven?

If you've spent much time searching for the answer to this question, you are likely frustrated and wonder, “Does anyone know for sure?”  Consider this answer - but from the lips of Jesus Christ as recorded in The Holy Bible in John 3:16:   “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” NIV

Pretty simple isn't it! Because God loved the world so much, HE wanted His creation (you and me and everyone else) to have eternal life with Him.  But, there's a problem.  God is holy and due to sin we are unholy.  Just as darkness can't exist in light, the unholy can't exist with the Holy.  So, we will perish won't we?  No, there is an escape.  God gave His most precious Son as a sacrifice for you and me.  John wrote that whoever believes in him (Jesus Christ) shall NOT perish.  So, is just believing there is a Jesus, enough?

No, it's a stronger meaning. To “believe” is one thing; to “believe in” is another.

Imagine that you have to cross a great chasm, and hundreds of feet below there's nothing but jagged rocks and that there is a bridge spanning it.  You may see and believe there is a bridge; but, that doesn't get you across.  However, if you crossed the bridge to the other side you believed that the bridge was there and that it was strong enough to get you safely across.  You had “faith” in the bridge and the builder.  That's what “believing in” means.  It's the same as trust.

John 3:16 tells us the who the why, and the how. There is nothing else you can do for eternal life but “trust”.  Now, think through this word “trust.” If you “trust” Jesus that means you can't save yourself.

Imagine again you're on one side of a chasm and there is a raging fire. The only escape is the bridge to the other side. You know you're lost if you don't cross the bridge.  So, you must turn from the fire (repentance) and by faith in the bridge (Jesus) you cross in safety to safety.  You didn't build the bridge but you did have to step out on the bridge in faith.  There's nothing else you can do if you want to be saved.

Anyone can get confused with the abundance of opinions. You have to make the choice.  Can you ever live good enough or work hard enough to earn your way into heaven?  John 3:16 says no.  Other verses in the Bible tell us there is danger in believing you can.  Read what is called the Romans Road.  All the verses are found in the letter to the Romans by Paul.  Ultimately you have to make the decision.

If you do believe what is written here, then trust Jesus.  See the Romans Road below.

The Romans Road

Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

Romans 6:23,  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 10:9, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

Romans 10:13 "for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Romans 5:1  "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Romans 8:1 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

If you believe by faith the Romans Road to salvation and John 3:16 then say this simple prayer of confession and confirmation or in your own words: I declare to You, God that I am relying on Jesus Christ for my salvation.  Only faith in Jesus Christ can provide salvation! "God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment, and I confess my sins to You, and You alone. I accept that Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve, so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help, I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!"
